Development Projects

At EVT we’re always finding new ways of maximising our assets to grow revenue and value, all while enhancing the community.

From creative layout changes at existing locations to longer term major developments, see below for a selection of current projects already underway.

New Development

525 George Street, Sydney

EVT is the owner of 525 George Street, Sydney CBD which is currently operating as part of the Event Cinemas George Street location.

Reimagining this prime real estate is a key development project to unlock future earnings and materially grow asset value.

The multi-purpose development includes:

  • 550m2 retail space;
  • 292 Hotel rooms;
  • Conference space, bar and restaurant;
  • 115 residential apartments;
  • 5 luxury cinema screens
  • 114 car parking spaces

In collaboration with award winning architects Candalepas Associates, the project has received Stage 1 DA approval and a Design Competition has been completed.  The final Stage 2 DA was submitted to the City of Sydney in May 2022.

The timing of the development will be subject to market conditions.

458 George Street, Sydney

EVT is the owner of significant real estate on the corner of George St and Market St, the heart of the Sydney CBD. This property currently includes QT Sydney, The State Theatre and approximately 1,800sqm of prime retail space.  In addition, EVT owns the commercial office building at 478 George St which serves as its head office, together with prime ground floor retail.

Adjoining these properties is 458-472 George Street, which was acquired in 2017 with the intention of future development. The proposed mixed-use development includes the following:

  • Extension of the QT Hotel with 70 additional rooms, conference space and a rooftop bar;
  • 300m2 of retail space; and
  • Approximately 35,000 m2 of commercial office space.

Also in collaboration with award winning architects Candalepas Associates, the extension of the QT Hotel, conference and retail has received DA approval.  A Stage 1 DA has also been lodged with the City of Sydney for the commercial office tower component.

Jucy Snooze, Cook Street, Auckland

The EVT Hotel group has expanded into the budget travel sector.  Recognising an opportunity to create high quality micro-accommodation, Jucy Snooze Hotels is all about spaces and stays that just …. feel right. Designed for savvy travellers and digital nomads, rooms include spacious, secure and connected PODS; design-led double rooms; and generous social and co-working spaces.

Jucy Snooze Auckland will be the flagship location at 54 Cook St, Auckland. Development includes;

  • Miss Lucy’s Bar and restaurant, direct street front access for locals and guests
  • 190 sleep pods – with in-built USBs, powerpoints and lockable storage
  • 40 double rooms
  • 70 ensuite double rooms
  • Common kitchen, dining and laundry

Thredbo Alpine Coaster

The installation of the Thredbo Alpine Coaster is currently in development and is expected to open ahead of winter 2023 (subject to NSW Government planning approval and weather conditions).  This rollercoaster-like toboggan amusement attraction will wind 1,040m through alpine and subalpine vegetation zones, from the top of Lovers Leap to the Valley Terminal precinct. 

Thredbo snow making

Ahead of winter 2022, Thredbo added six new fixed snowmaking guns and four mobile snowmaking guns to its already significant fleet, increasing the amount of snow coverage across the mountain.  

The resort has also completed the expansion of its snowmaking pipeline in the Friday Flat area. These upgrades have been designed to provide more consistent coverage throughout more marginal areas of the resort, from season start to end. Ongoing snowmaking enhancements and upgrades will continue. 

Thredbo lift replacement plan

Following the construction of the Merritts Gondola launched for winter 2020 and the Easy Rider T-Bar replacement for winter 2022, Thredbo will roll out a comprehensive lift replacement plan over the next eight yearsincluding replacing the Snowgums Chairlift and Gunbarrel Chairlift with high-speed six-seater chairlifts. This will increase lifting capacity by up to 40%.  

Thredbo MTB trails

For summer 22/23, three new beginner and intermediate gravity trails will open in the Cruiser area, with the Cruiser Chairlift set to operate for its first ever summer.  

Adding 4.4km of graded trails to Thredbo’s 35km network of gravity trails, the Cruiser MTB Park will offer beginner and intermediate trails. 

Future developments include additional beginner and intermediate trails, a beginner jumps park and a skills park.  

New intermediate to advanced trails are planned from the top of the Kosciuszko Chairlift, adding to the already extensive trail network. 


Upgrades

Event Chermside Cinema

The upgrade of Event Cinemas Chermside will transform it into a cinema of the future. Scheduled to be completed in late 2022, Chermside will feature V-Max with Your Cinema Your Way seating, an all-new Boutique and Gold Class precinct, a retail marketplace highlighting Parlour Lane Popcorn and Parlour Lane Fiesta, a 4DX multi-sensory auditorium, and revitalised Original auditoriums and public amenities.

Customers will be delighted by the new experiences in a location they have always loved.

Westfield Chermside is the largest retail and lifestyle destination in Queensland and is an exciting place for reinvestment by EVT. 

Event Innaloo Cinema

Event Cinemas Innaloo has always been an institution on the Perth entertainment scene and continues to evolve. In 2022, Innaloo will unveil V-Max with Your Cinema Your Way seating, a new and expanded Gold Class lounge, a retail Marketplace showcasing Parlour Lane Popcorn and Parlour Lane Fiesta, and revitalised Original auditoriums and public amenities.

The reimagining of Innaloo will captivate customers with movie memories for the next generation.  EVT’s premium cinema reinvestment program at Innaloo will continue in 2023. 

Event Queensgate Cinema

Commenced March 2022 

Refurbishments include; 

  • New walk-up candy bar 
  • New play games zone 
  • 1 V-Max auditorium 
  • 1 IMAX auditorium 
  • 5 Original auditoriums 

 

QT Gold Coast

Designer luxe and coastal cool collide in QT Gold Coast’s five-star reimagining, set for completion in late 2022.

The project includes the transformation of the iconic QT Ballroom, level one and two event spaces and indulgent upgrades for all 298 guest rooms and suites. It also includes a complete refresh of the picturesque poolside precinct, The Spring and neighbouring lawn and terrace, The Green.

Conversion of a currently non-utilised 600m2 of ballroom rooftop area, will also see the introduction of a new concept for QT – a luxurious rooftop urban oasis. Six boutique cabins, each 18m2, will perch within lush surrounds, perfect for al fresco functions, connected experiences and prime for relaxation.

The significant investment to bring this designer playground to life solidifies QT’s standing as an industry leader in design-led event spaces and accommodation.

 

Rydges Melbourne Hotel

Anticipated commencement February 2022 

Refurbishments include; 

  • 370 hotel rooms 
  • New 500sqm ballroom 
  • New conferencing and pre-function area 
  • New level 2 rooftop bar
